When Science Meets Spirit: Exploring the Mystery of Energy, Angels, and the Afterlife

Twenty years ago, I had a near-death experience that shifted the trajectory of my entire life. Raised in an evangelical cult and later deprogrammed, I had a science-based career and grew into an atheist. I had no belief in angels, and certainly no expectations of grace beyond this world.
But when I lay alone in a hospital, with my blood pressure gone, something happened—something I could never explain within the frameworks I had trusted. I crossed over into a space filled with peace and presence—and unmistakably, with angels. The compassion was overwhelming. It was not a hallucination, or a dream, or a projection. It changed me.
And I have never forgotten it.
From Skepticism to Seeing
After that experience, I became an open-minded skeptic—still searching for scientific grounding but no longer dismissing the unseen. Oddly enough, my first Reiki class happened "by accident"—a friend signed me up. I showed up, unsure why. And so began a decade of deep spiritual study: energy medicine, intuition, sound healing, and soul work.
I never intended to see clients. But life had other plans. One session led to another. At first, I doubted myself constantly. But my clients kept affirming what I already sensed: that something real, something helpful, was happening.
Then, something deeper began to unfold.
The Messages Beyond the Veil
Sometimes during sessions, subtle impressions began to arrive:
The name Constance, later confirmed to be a client’s beloved deceased grandmother.
A deceased horse who had once guarded a toddler like a nanny.
A great-aunt’s voice and posture, mimicked with uncanny accuracy.
Words of comfort from a partner who had passed.
A guardian angel named Persephone—the name of the heroine in a book the client was secretly writing.
I couldn’t explain how this information arrived. The images, the names, the whispers—they came unbidden, sometimes symbolic, sometimes crystal clear. But one thing remained constant: they were meaningful to the client.
Eventually, I could no longer call myself a skeptic. But I did begin to wonder—how does this work? Is it telepathy? Shared consciousness? Energy that never dies but only changes form?
What Science Is Beginning to Suggest
While science has not (yet) confirmed life after death or the existence of angels, it is beginning to explore edges that support these kinds of experiences.
1. Quantum Entanglement & Nonlocal Mind Particles can become entangled—instantly affecting each other across any distance. Some theorists suggest consciousness might behave this way, allowing information to pass without physical proximity.
2. Electromagnetic Fields & Brainwaves The brain emits frequencies that shift with our thoughts and emotions. Could these fields interact with others, enabling subtle communication?
3. Biophotons & Cell Signaling Our cells emit faint pulses of light, known as biophotons. They may carry information, even forming a light-based communication system within the body—and perhaps beyond.
4. Morphic Fields (Rupert Sheldrake)This controversial theory posits that memory and behavior exist in fields shared across organisms, like patterns of resonance or habit that transcend time and space.
5. Consciousness as FundamentalSome physicists and philosophers propose that consciousness is not generated by the brain but is instead a fundamental fabric of the universe. If that’s true, then it may continue even after physical death.
The Singing Trees and Whispering Plants
If this sounds too mystical, consider the plants.
Trees connected through fungal networks share nutrients and warnings—a forest-wide web of intelligence. Plants emit ultrasonic frequencies that shift based on stress and need, attracting insects or defending themselves. Some researchers believe plants "hear" and even "respond" to sound frequencies.
If plants and fungi can communicate in unseen ways, why would we assume human consciousness ends at the brain?
A Healer’s Path Through the Mystery
I now believe that when I connect with a client—especially when the energy is deep and calm—I may be tuning into a shared field. Whether it's the soul of a loved one, the frequency of an angel, or the living memory in the energy body, the common thread is resonance. When we listen, it speaks.
What began as doubt has become reverent curiosity.
What once frightened me—angels, death, the unknown—now fills me with peace.
When I tell my clients there is nothing to fear, I mean it. I know it.
Because I’ve been there.
