Is Your Environment Supporting Your Light?

Simple Ways to Brighten the Energy Around You

Is your space nurturing your inner light?
Is your space nurturing your inner light?

Last month, we talked about letting our inner light shine. This month, let’s take it a step further and explore how the energy of our spaces can either support that beautiful light—or quietly dim it—and what we can do to shift it.

Have you ever noticed there are spaces you simply dread being in? They might feel dark, disorganized, chaotic, or overwhelming. Sometimes the cause is obvious (too much clutter, not enough light), and sometimes it's something you can’t quite put your finger on. Luckily, there are simple, low-cost ways to refresh and uplift the energy of your environment. Here are a few easy places to start:

1. Lighten Up

Open the curtains. Clean the windows. Swap out a dim bulb for a brighter LED or add a cozy lamp to a darker corner. A little more light can make a big difference in how a space feels.

2. Declutter

It’s time to clear away piles of papers, mail, old catalogs, and other forgotten “stuff.” Clutter has been proven to negatively affect our brain, our performance, and our mood, even when we don't realize it.

If shoes pile up at the front door, tuck them away neatly—or consider a small shoe rack or cubby. As you move through each room, straighten up or let go of anything that’s no longer serving you. If multiple family members are involved, you might try labeling boxes with their names, filling them with their items, and assigning each person to put their belongings away.

Sometimes photographs accumulate in our space. Unfortunately, some photos can make us sad or hold us in the past. This would be the time to curate those photographs down to the most current, happy, or favorite photos, and honor the rest in an album.

Look around. Are there things you were given or inherited that you don't love, but you feel obligated to keep? Put them away or pass them on. Maybe your brother-in-law would love the old moose head, or the porcelain doll collection can be donated. Your space should not hold things that bring you down.

3. Organize

Once the clutter is cleared, notice the patterns. Do shoes gather by the door? Maybe that’s the perfect place for a small caddy. Is the kitchen counter a magnet for papers and mail? A simple basket might help catch the incoming flow. Your piles will show you exactly where you need new or improved systems to help you stay more organized and control the clutter.

4. Clean

With the surfaces cleared, it’s the perfect time to dust, sweep, and vacuum. Fresh, clean energy loves clean, cared-for spaces. Household cleaning products can be very harsh, so stick to simple, natural alternatives.

5. Freshen the Air

Open a window—even for just a few minutes—to bring in fresh air and let out stale energy. Indoor air can quickly accumulate chemical vapors, cooking smells, pet dander, and even radon.

To lift the vibe even further, light a soy or beeswax candle, or mist the air with a blend of your favorite essential oils and water.

6. Keep the Energy High

Once you’ve raised the energy of your space, it helps to nurture it.

  • Turn off the news and social media and play uplifting music instead. Channels like YouTube have hours of free music that you can find under meditation, frequency, or even angel music.

  • Hang a beautiful set of chimes to let sweet sounds ripple through the room.

  • Add living plants to naturally freshen the air and add life to the room.

  • Bring in crystals like clear quartz (for raising frequency), black tourmaline (for protection), rose quartz (for compassion), hematite (for grounding), or any beautiful stone you love.

  • Choose art that uplifts and soothes you whenever you see it.

Many of these ideas can also be used to brighten up your workspace, cubicle, or classroom. An added bonus? Spaces filled with higher frequencies often naturally deter low-frequency behavior—and sometimes even low-frequency people!

You can also use smudging to clear out lingering heavy energy and reset the vibration of a space. (We’ll talk more about how to smudge effectively in a future post!)

Another helpful tool is Feng Shui—the ancient art of arranging spaces to encourage smooth, supportive energy flow. Many Feng Shui principles are beautifully simple, from clearing clutter to adding natural beauty. (Stay tuned—we’ll dive deeper into Feng Shui basics in upcoming blogs!)

Closing:

The spaces we spend time in matter. When we take small, mindful steps to care for them, we create environments that nourish, uplift, and reflect the light within us.

You deserve to live and work in spaces that support your energy—not drain it.

Maybe today is the perfect day to choose one small thing to refresh. Your soul will thank you!
